2010 - Franklin Pierce presidential dollar P uncirculated Presidential dollars were designed to commemorate the US presidents that have led this great country. The United States Mint started this set back in 2007 and are scheduled to release these presidential dollars for years to come. What better way to illustrate the history of the US than to collect these wonderful dollars. Presidential dollars are minted from philadelphia (P), denver (D) and even San Fransisco (S). You can but these coins either uncirculated singles, uncirculated rolls, US mint sets and even us proof sets. Great way to start our next generation of coin collectors by having them make the set of these presidential dollars. If these dollars look like a fun way to collect coins, then you should also see the US state quarters, territory quarters, and even the new "america the beautiful" national park quarters. The Franklin Pierce Dollar was the second coin released during 2010 for the Presidential Dollar coin series. It also represented the fourteenth release overall for the series, which began in 2007 to honor the former Presidents of the United States. The circulation release date for the coins was May 20, 2010. The official launch ceremony for the coin was held on the same date at Pierce Manse, the former President’s home in Concord, New Hampshire. The event was co-hosted by the Franklin Pierce College and the Pierce Brigade. United States Mint Deputy Director Adnrew Brunhart was on hand for the ceremony. The obverse of the Franklin Pierce Presidential Dollar features a portrait designed by Susan Gamble and engraved by Charles Vickers. The inscriptions include “Franklin Pierce”, “In God We Trust”, “14th President” and the years of his Presidential term “1853-1857″. The reverse of the coin features a rendition of the Statue of Liberty as designed by Don Everhart. This image has been used as the reverse design for each coin in the Presidential Dollar series so far. Inscriptions read “United States of America” and the denomination “$1″. The Presidential Dollars will continue to use incuse edge lettering for some required elements. The date, mint mark, and “E Pluribus Unum” will appear on the edge of the coin, along with thirteen stars. Franklin Pierce Dollars will be produced for circulation, with production taking place at the Philadelphia Mint and the Denver Mint facilities. Proof coins will be produced at the San Francisco Mint. These high quality collector strikes will be included in some of the United States Mint’s annual sets.
