Carlene Sperry with Patrick Dempsey who presented her with the "Breakaway from Cancer Award"
The Heart of Hope Pendant was designed by Carlene Sperry a native of Caribou, Me., she moved to Auburn with her husband Mitch and three children, Grant, Tyler and Marisa in 1985.
January 2003, she was handed the diagnosis of breast cancer and endured weeks of chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
Carlene has become a true warrior in the fight against breast cancer since her diagnosis through self awareness and education.
Carlene is a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for the"Look Good Feel Better" program. For the pass four years, along with family and friends, she has helped raise money for the ACS Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Portland, Me.
This past October's walk her team, "Carlene's Angels" raised over $3,600.00!
The American Cancer Society presented the "Quality of Life Award" to Carlene, in October of 2007.
Carlene was recognized on stage at the Champion of Hope Banquet, during the Dempsey Challenge weekend this passed October 2009.
She received the "Breakaway from Cancer Award" sponsored by Amgen Pharmaceutical Co.
These are but a few things that Carlene does for breast cancer awareness.... the one thing that she will never stop doing, is help to raise money and raise self awareness, in education.
The design of the Heart of Hope Pendant, at the moment is Carlene's biggest and most cherished accomplishment, (as well as healing from breast cancer) and of course the love and support of her husband, children, family and friends was the vision behind the pendant and all that she continues to do today!
"Throughout my battle with breast cancer I was unconditionally loved, supported and encouraged by my family, friends and thousands of women before me who have been affected by this terrible disease. It is because if this amazing network of inspiring people that I had the strength to fight and the faith to believe in my survival. I could not have done this alone.
This Heart of Hope pendant expresses my immeasurable gratitude and thanks to those around me, and it serves as a symbol of the power of love and unity. Together, there is hope and comfort for all us who have been diagnosed with, or who have felt the affects of breast cancer. No one walks this path alone. Where there is faith, there are Angels.
May God bless you all, as I have been blessed."

In loving memory of my sister-in-law Brenda L. Sperry who fought a couragous battle with Breast Cancer. She lost her battle to this terrible disease on 1-4-10. She was a very strong and courageous woman who never gave up. We miss her dearly and know she is now in heaven watching over all of us. She will be forever missed.
